We performed our first paying gig at a Senior Home yesterday. We visited the residents at Sunrise Senior Living in Hermosa Beach, and we weren't the only ones visiting that day... Santa was there too! We were the 'post-Santa' entertainment.
Their home is really beautiful and they have an upper deck where the residents can enjoy a view of the Pacific Ocean! Isn't that everyone's dream? An Ocean View!
We were directed to the Dementia care facility in back where we found the residents already seated and waiting for our performance. We had a few audience members who seemed to be dozing off, but as soon as we got to our 2nd song, "Rockin Around The Christmas Tree", they were wide awake enjoying the music and dancing! Our audience was small, but we had some brave voices singing along to Christmas favorites, and one lady waved her hands in the air every time she enjoyed a particular song.
The Sassy Songbirds had a blast performing our holiday show for the residents of Sunrise Hermosa Beach, and hope to come back in the new year to perform some of our Broadway Favorites! Kristen's sister Megan came along and recorded a couple of our numbers so that we could share them with you....
One video clip showcases our harmonies in "Silver Bells"...
And the other clip is "Rockin Around The Christmas Tree" featuring our little dance-break choreographed by Alexis....

A Bunco Christmas
Yesterday we performed our First Holiday/Christmas Show!!!! Ho Ho Ho, Feliz Navidad, Mele Kalikimaka!!!! :)
We made the trek down to Fallbrook (North County San Diego) where Kristen's Mom's Bunco group was having their annual Christmas party... AND... The Sassy Songbirds made a special appearance! Our performance included holiday favorites such as "Silver Bells", " Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree", "Santa Baby", and "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve". As an encore, we sang an a cappella version of "Away In A Manger" filled with soaring harmonies. I think I spied a few tears in the audience after that one.
No one could believe that we'd only been performing our shows for 4 weeks now! We're both very excited about building our repertoire and we find ourselves spending more and more time finding great songs and coming up with fun choreography. Can't wait to see where the road takes us!
Here is a picture of us with our fabulous Bunco Babes!
30s & 40s Ballads
They're finally here..... Clips of Alexis and Kristen singing solos at The Whittier Place Senior Concert. We have Alexis Singing "Someone To Watch Over Me" while Kristen croons "I'll Be Seeing You" -- these were very popular songs for our audience members and they resulted in rousing applause! Coming soon.... video clips of our Fabulous Duets and Christmas Songs. Enjoy!!

Concert at Whittier Place Senior Living
Last Monday The Sassy Songbirds performed at Whittier Place Senior Living! This home is dear to our hearts because this is where Kristen's Dad lives! Her Dad suffers from Alzheimer's and has found a wonderful home at Whittier Place, so we were very excited to perform for the residents.
We planned to perform our 30s & 40s standards for the residents. Our program started off with a dramatic rendition of "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" where we incorporated some glove choreography and Marilyn Monroe inspired dance moves! The moment we started singing, we could see a lot of smiles and excitement in our audience! Here is a picture of us with our gloves...
We continued on with a nice mix of up-tempos such as "The Trolley Song", "Well Alright, Ok, You Win", "This Ole House" and favorite ballads including "My Funny Valentine", "Someone to Watch Over Me", and "I'll Be Seeing You". Kristen's Dad thoroughly enjoyed "Cry Me A River" and he began singing along with Alexis, and later everyone joined in on "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".
Our Finale included "Sisters" from the movie musical White Christmas. Our Choreography and Harmonies really pack a punch as the perfect finale! And then of course to get everyone in the spirit of Christmas, we had an encore of "Silent Night" where everyone sang along beautifully. Below is a pictures from "Sisters".
The concert was so rewarding and the audience was so receptive! We can't wait to tweak our show even more to showcase favorite songs from that era. We also hope to get some video up very soon of our performance... we are still in the editing phase.
Below are some pictures of us dancing with Kristen's Dad and another enthusiastic resident named Tabitha!
